Angelina Jolie Says She ‘Shut Down’ And Felt Her ‘Light Was Dimmed’ During 8-Year Divorce Battle As Settlement Is Finally Reached

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and have finally reached an agreement: after 8 years, their divorce battle has come to a close. The pair have launched lawsuit after lawsuit at one another ever since Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt back in 2016, and for a while there, we weren’t sure if the battle was ever going to come to an end. Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt's Divorce Battle Comes To A Close

To close out 2024, Angelina and Brad signed off on their divorce, marking the end of their 8 year battle to end their 2 year marriage. Over the years, they fought over custody, with Angelina bringing up Brad's alleged abuse of her and her children, NDA's, and their French winery Château Miraval, among other things.

Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, gave the following statement to People: "More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over."

Angelina Jolie Reflects On The Effects Of 8-Year Divorce Battle

As anyone can imagine, fighting a divorce battle for 8 years is exhausting and all-consuming. In an interview with Times Radio that came out shortly after their finalized divorce, the Maria actress shed light on what the process was like. "You're an artist, and you go through different things in life," she said. "And you wonder if certain parts of you have shut down, or who you are, what you have inside of you, and if your light's dimmed, and if you have less to contribute, or if you don't know yourself..."

According to a source close to the actress, "She's been trying hard to be light after a dark time. The kids have grown up seeing that some people have so much power and privilege that their voices don’t matter. Their pain doesn’t count. They have wanted her to speak up for herself, to defend herself over these years…"
