Angelina Jolie Talks About The Similarities She Has With Maria Callas

In Maria, Jolie portrays the legendary opera singer Maria Callas. She chatted with PEOPLE about how the role isn’t just a character she plays; she also sensed a deep, personal connection with the singer.

Speaking about the connection she felt, she explained, "I don't want to speak too much about it because it's too personal, but there's definitely a loneliness and a work ethic. I may be many things, but I'm a very hard worker, right?"

She added, "I'm an imperfect person, but I work very hard and she does."

The movie, which will be released in select theaters on Nov. 27th and streamed on Netflix starting Dec. 11, revolves around the "famed opera singer Maria Callas," who "retreats to Paris in the 1970s after a glamorous yet tumultuous life in the public eye."
