Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain are making fans do a double take! In the new trailer for the Oscar winners’ upcoming film, Mother’s Instinct, they can both be seen donning 1960s suburban housewife costumes and shorter rounded beehive hairdos. Hathaway, 41, will star as Celine (with her signature dark brown hair color) whereas Chastain will portray Alice (and swaps her trademark fiery red locks for light blonde tresses).

In the forthcoming psychological thriller and period drama, their characters are neighbors who reside in a peaceful suburban area. As the plot thickens, Celine’s son Max tragically dies, and the two women’s lives are instantly affected. The brand new trailer for the flick dropped on the morning of January 9th, and fans have been reacting to Hathaway and Chastain’s transformations ever since.

On the recently shared movie poster, the tagline reads: "Mothers' instinct: Sometimes it's the only thing you can trust." On X (formerly Twitter), fans shared their thoughts on Hathaway and Chastain's costumes and new hair for their roles.

While many "almost didn't recognize" Chastain without her usual red hair, one tweeted that she still looked amazing with it and was "born to be a blonde." Hathaway fans were also happy to see her return to shorter hair and noted just how flattering it looked on her.

"Anne Hathaway looks beautiful with short hair," one wrote as another noted that she "shines in films" set during the 1960s, citing her recent 2023 thriller film Eileen as another example. Others commented on their anticipation for Mother's Instinct after viewing the "intriguing" new trailer. "I am already on the edge of my seat!" one tweeted as another added: "this looks really good."

Someone else chimed in: "I enjoy a nice psychological thriller" as another replied: "Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain in one frame easily the most awaited movie of the year already." One user also shared their excitement at seeing the two actresses reunite onscreen: "Great to see Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain together after Interstellar," they wrote.

Benoît Delhomme directs the upcoming psychological thriller that is a remake of Olivier Masset-Depasse's 2018 French film of the same name, which was based on Barbara Abel's novel, Mothers' Instinct.

Along with Hathaway and Chastain, the star-studded flick will also feature performances from Josh Charles and Anders Danielsen Lie.
