Ellen DeGeneres has been facing some serious criticism in recent months. The once popular talkshow host has come under fire for her mean attitude and unkind treatment of employees and guests.
Although rumors about the 62-year-old have been circulating for awhile now, criticism of the show and its “toxic” environment have become more serious as a group of current and former employees spoke anonymously to Buzzfeed News about their experiences working for the show.
Since then, the show's employees have apparently rallied around each other. In fact, according to Us Weekly, employees at The Ellen Show are "loving" the fact that details of their workplace are coming to light.
A source explains, "They’ve been calling and texting each other about the story ... They’re loving that the truth — which has been an open secret for years in the industry — is finally receiving more interest."
According to NPR, the Buzzfeed story details a series of mistreatment employees faced while working on set: "Their complaints included firings after taking medical or bereavement leave; a Black employee having racist comments levied at her by senior staff; and staffers being told not to speak directly to DeGeneres."
In light of these serious accusations, The Ellen Show is finally responding to the allegations against them. The show's executive producers, Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner, issued a statement, explaining that they "have strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment."
The show also apologized for the incidents detailed in the Buzzfeed report.
The statement explained, "We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience."
However, Ellen herself has not yet addressed the multiple allegations against her, leading many to wonder if the host will ever issue a personal statement or apology about the accusations about her mean behavior and her show's toxic environment.
