We’ve all heard the saying: breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Breakfast foods like eggs are rich sources of protein and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper. But one of the best ways to ensure even more nutrients is to load up your eggs with good-for-you spices. Beyond increasing flavors, spices help maximize nutrient density and contain antioxidants, minerals and multivitamins-all of which work to prevent aging.

“While adding spices to your eggs doesn’t mean that you will never age, there are certainly spices that you can incorporate to slow down the aging process,” Life Insurance star nutritionist Heather Hanks explains. In fact, “adding more herbs to your diet in general will help right the aging process and reduce UV skin damage.”

Turmeric

Turmeric-a bright yellow spice traditionally used in curries, golden milk lattes and mustards-is quickly becoming a trendy superfood. A lot of its star power is thanks to a compound known as curcumin, which provides the bulk of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

In fact, a Johns Hopkins study found that a combination of curcumin and a chemotherapy drug was more effective at shrinking drug-resistant tumors than using chemotherapy alone.

Additionally, Healthline reports that curcumin is known to fight age-related disease and "combat cellular damage, significantly increasing the lifespan of fruit flies, roundworms and mice."

Not only can turmeric combat aging, but it also helps maintain a healthy weight by boosting metabolism and decreasing appetite. Although, it's worth saying that no one food can power weight loss. Effectively dropping pounds (and keeping them off) means that you couple a balanced diet with exercise.

According to Trista Best, a registered dietitian at Balance One Supplements, turmeric “shouldn’t be strictly relied upon for weight loss, but it CAN make an excellent addition to an existing weight loss regimen. This is primarily due to turmeric’s anti-inflammatory capabilities. Reducing inflammation in the body has an almost direct impact on preventing or reducing obesity and overall body weight. By cutting down on inflammation in the body, your metabolism is better able to burn calories at an efficient rate.”

Basically, a sprinkle of turmeric a day, helps keep the doctor away. Try sprinkling this magic spice on your eggs every morning, and you'll be doing yourself a favor in the future.
