Aging is a natural process, but the right nutrients can help you maintain a youthful appearance and vibrant energy as you grow older. While lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, and sleep play key roles in how we age, certain supplements can also provide powerful anti-aging benefits. From supporting skin elasticity to boosting brain function and reducing inflammation, the right supplements can help you look and feel younger than your age.

Ariana Medizade (@thewellnesspharm), a holistic pharmacist, revealed her top supplement recommendation for those looking to slow aging and boost energy. She suggests nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), often referred to as the “fountain of youth.” Keep reading to learn more about its benefits.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN)

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) supplements are believed to help with aging by boosting levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), a coenzyme found in every cell of the body. NAD+ is crucial for energy production, DNA repair, and cellular health. As we age, NAD+ levels naturally decline, leading to decreased energy, slower cell regeneration, and a higher susceptibility to age-related diseases.

Medizade says, “People who look extremely young for their age are taking NMN. This has been referred to by researchers as the fountain of youth. This molecule is the precursor to NAD+, which is essential to repair damaged DNA and improve mitochondrial function, which helps give you a youthful appearance, better energy levels, and helps protect your body against age-related diseases like cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes.”

However, “The problem is as we age, our levels of NAD+ decline, leading to age-related health issues like cellular damage, impaired DNA repair, and low energy levels.”

The bottom line

While NMN supplements show promising benefits for slowing down aging and enhancing overall health, it’s important to approach supplementation with caution. Research on NMN is still ongoing, and while early studies suggest positive effects, long-term safety and efficacy are not yet fully understood. Additionally, individual results may vary based on genetics, lifestyle, and overall health. Before adding NMN or any other supplement to your routine, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have underlying health conditions or take other medications.
