If your goal this fall and winter is to showcase supplements that boost skin’s elasticity, moisture, youthful appearance, and glow, you’re in the right place.

Neuroscientist and popular TikTok influencer Dr. Robert Love combines his extensive knowledge in Alzheimer’s prevention with practical nutritional advice.

3 Essential Anti-Aging Supplements That Boost Collagen, According To A Neuroscientist

In a recent TikTok video, he and pharmacist Ben Fuchs explored the benefits of three particular supplements—vitamin A, silica gel, and vitamin C—highlighting how they can contribute to a radiant complexion as you age. We’ll break them all down below:

1. Vitamin C

Love referred to this skincare supplement as the "Babe Ruth of vitamins," as it is "important for the production of connected tissue." He noted that it can promote "strong, healthy, connected tissue" that "keeps your skin firm and taught."

This supplement, when taken daily, also "helps your skin absorb moisture and prevents wrinkles," he went on. Many dermatologists will concur that vitamin C plays a crucial role in preserving collagen fibers, an essential component of skin structure. Additionally, it aids in quicker wound healing, diminishes inflammation, and lightens dark spots.

2. Vitamin A

This supplement is "very important for turning on the fibroblasts," Love says. He explains that "those are the cells that make the collagen" and "help skin cells divide at just the right rate." When skin cells "don't divide at just the right rate, you can get acne, and you get psoriasis." Love adds that you can also "get eczema" and "barrier defects that can lead to dry skin, among other health issues."

Vitamin A supplements can be taken every day to tighten your skin and reduce the effects of aging, as other doctors would agree. This is because it's known to boost the production of collagen and elastin in our bodies—both of which naturally break down as we age.

3. Silica Gel

Love says that silica gel is another supplement to look out for when it comes to anti-aging purposes, "especially liquid silica gel."

Silica is a "precipitating agent around which connective tissue forms," he goes on, adding that it's "not only great for keeping your skin youthful," but also "for keeping your hair and nails healthy."

The Bottom Line

As Love concludes in his video, this last supplement is "fabulous" for "building the connected tissue, which is the most important part of the skin and the most important part of the body." Good to know!
