Go a little too hard with the turkey and stuffing yesterday? Or maybe you had a little too much wine and beer while watching the big game? Either way, you’re probably feeling a little bloated today, right? Aren’t we all?!

Thankfully, this is only temporary and there are plenty of little remedies you can try to alleviate the bloating. In fact, experts say that the best thing you can do right after a big meal is have a cup of peppermint tea! Here’s why:

Peppermint tea is a drink that benefits the body in many ways, but Ashvini Mashru, R.D., owner of Wellness Nutrition Concepts, LLC, says that it's one of the best drinks you can have if you're feeling bloated.

This is because peppermint tea is rich in methanol, a bloat-fighting ingredient that helps move things along inside your digestive system.

"Peppermint is also very good at curbing your cravings at night," Mashru tells Shape. "So peppermint tea actually kills two birds with one stone: It curbs cravings, and it helps with the bloating."

Wondering what you should be eating to help get rid of all of that excess sodium from Thanksgiving dinner? Mashru suggests having foods that are high in potassium to help combat some of the bloating. "Sodium retains all of the water in our bodies whereas potassium has the reverse effect," she explains.

Mashru says that coconut water is another potassium-rich drink you can have to help feel a little less bloated. It's actually one of her go-to drinks for when she needs to de-bloat. "I use it regularly because it has the potassium content like bananas so it helps regulate electrolyte levels and keeps fluid levels regular in our bodies," she continues.
