Meat, Poultry and Fish

Our hair is composed of protein, so eating protein-rich foods like salmon, chicken and eggs are essential when it comes to hair growth. "Include a small dose [of protein] at each meal and with each snack, and you'll keep your hair follicles strong," says registered dietician Dawn Jackson Blatner.

Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene which converts to vitamin A, or retinol. "Vitamin A protects against dull hair and dry skin, a leading cause of dandruff," U.S. News & World Report states. Orange-colored fruits and vegetables, like pumpkin, carrots, and mangoes, contain high amounts of beta-carotene as well.

Liver

Liver may not be one of your favorite dishes, but there's no doubt that it has amazing benefits for hair. “Liver contains the highest concentration of biotin, a B complex vitamin that helps with hair and nail growth," says dermatologist Julia Tzu. If you can't stomach the taste of liver, biotin supplments work just fine as well!

Blueberries

Blueberries, according to clinical nutritionist Dr. Josh Axe, are one of the most antioxidant-rich foods in the world. "For those worried about thinning hair, certain plant chemicals in blueberries called proanthocyanidins have even been found to stimulate hair growth," says dermatologist Audrey Kunin.

"Having a balanced diet, while putting a little extra emphasis on things like protein and iron, gives your hair a boost," says dermatologist Neil Sadick. Add these foods to your diet and tell us how they've helped your hair growth in the comments below!
