Experts recommend swapping the unhealthy foods you’re used to eating with nutrient-rich, anti-inflammatory options to help get rid of stubborn belly bulge over 40. That’s because these foods help combat inflammation, eliminating any distress in the cells and making easier for your metabolism to burn calories.

Keep scrolling to find out which anti-inflammatory foods come nutritionist-recommended for weight loss and more:

1. Blueberries

Adding a handful of blueberries to your favorite meals is a great way to boost your metabolism because of their high flavonoid content, which helps prevent weight gain and promote a healthy calorie burning. “If this F word sounds foreign, don’t fret - it simply refers to the bioactive component of fruits and vegetables which have the potential to influence weight,” Rachel Swanson, an RDN at Lifespan Medicine, says.

Blueberries are also high in polyphenols, micronutrients that combat cellular stress by slowing down and blocking the inflammatory response in the body.

2. Cauliflower

Everyone knows that green, leafy veggies are excellent for weight loss, but that doesn't mean that's all you should be having. Experts say incorporating some cauliflower will do your metabolism and waistline some good.

"Cauliflower is anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants, it’s packed with Vitamin C and K, and it aids in detoxification and healthy digestion,” Dr. Luiza Petre, MD, tells SheFinds.

3. Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese can be a great base for a healthy snack while you’re on a diet. Add blueberries, nuts, or seeds to it for a delicious treat. Cottage cheese is important for gut health and digestion, as well as a great source of casein, which keeps you full for longer periods of time.

"Cheese can be a great source of calcium, protein, and surprisingly, a good source of vitamin A," say Dietitians Kelly Clifford and Meghan Daw at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market.

“Salmon helps your body burn off fat rather than store it,” Andrea Wise says, who is a Chicago-based nutrition coach. The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon are healthy fats that directly inhibit inflammation. Salmon also provides you vitamin D. Studies show that low levels of vitamin D have been linked to retaining fat instead of burning fat. Wild salmon has more omega-3s than farmed so choose wisely.
