If you’re looking to lose weight, reducing inflammation is key. You can do this by avoiding processed foods that are high in added sugars. And, you can also reduce inflammation and shed pounds by drinking beverages, like green tea, that are high in antioxidants. But, are there other anti-inflammatory teas that are even better for weight loss?
To learn more about the unexpected anti-inflammatory tea that can help you lose weight, we spoke with Susan Schachter, a registered dietitian, nutritionist, and co-founder of 120/Life. She said that ginger tea is the best anti-inflammatory tea to shed belly fat. This is because it increases calorie burn, boosts your metabolism, curbs cravings, and reduces inflammation. Ginger Tea Is The Best Anti-Inflammatory Tea For Weight Loss
Schachter recommends anti-inflammatory ginger tea to help reduce stomach fat and lose overall weight. It works in a couple of ways to potentially support weight loss. "Firstly, it may help boost metabolism and increase calorie burning, which can contribute to fat loss," she says.
"Secondly, it may help reduce appetite and curb cravings, leading to reduced calorie intake," Schachter continues. Plus, she says, ginger is known for its anti-inflammation and metabolism-boosting abilities. Reducing inflammation in the body can not only help with weight loss but it can also improve your overall health.
"It contains bioactive compounds such as gingerols and shogaols, which have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in studies," Schachter notes. "By reducing inflammation, ginger may help alleviate certain metabolic disorders and promote a healthier environment for weight loss."
How often you drink ginger tea for weight loss can vary, Schachter says. It's generally safe to drink ginger tea every day, but remember that everyone is different and that you should take individual preferences and tolerance into account.
She adds, "Starting with a cup or two per day and gradually increasing the intake, while monitoring any potential side effects or digestive discomfort, is a good approach." Noted! Plus, drinking a cup of ginger tea right before bed can help you feel less bloated when you wake up.
The Bottom Line
However, it's important to remember that ginger tea alone is not going to magically help you lose weight. Schachter says that you should be drinking this anti-inflammatory beverage with a balanced diet rich in whole foods (including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins) and regular exercise (cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility workouts) for substantial weight loss.
She also emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated, sleeping enough (learn about the best supplement for better sleep!), and managing stress levels for overall health and weight loss management. And, if you're still struggling, Schachter suggests reaching out to a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian who can provide personalized guidance and support on your weight loss journey!
