There are plenty of tiny tweaks you can make to your diet to help promote weight loss–starting with the ingredients you use to prepare your favorite meals. Experts say that there’s one ingredient, in particular, that contains anti-inflammatory properties and can even help flush toxins to assist in your fat loss efforts.
It’s turmeric!
Turmeric is a popular spice that has been found to contain powerful anti-inflammatory properties thanks to its main active ingredient curcumin.
Adding turmeric to your diet can help alleviate any ailments from diseases and combat oxidative damage in the body because it's high in antioxidants. "I recommend turmeric for all inflammatory disorders, including arthritis, tendonitis, and autoimmune conditions," Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D., says.
Don't think you can handle the spice, Dr. Weil suggests adding a turmeric supplement to your weight loss regimen to reap its benefits. He also suggests taking a ginger supplement as well if that is also not being accounted for in your diet.
"Take 400 to 600 milligrams of turmeric extracts (available in tablets or capsules) three times per day or as directed on the product label," he explains. "Don’t use turmeric if you have gallstones or bile duct dysfunction. Pregnant women shouldn’t use it without their doctors’ approval. In rare cases, extended use can cause stomach upset or heartburn."
Talk to your doctor before incorporating these supplements into your weight loss routine to see if you could benefit from them.
