Ginger
A lot of weight gain could be avoided if you just felt full enough to stop snacking. Ginger to the rescue! This piquant root decreases insulin production and prevents rebound hunger. “It also improves how leptin, the satiety hormone, functions,” says Dr. Luiza Petre, MD, director of the Medi-Weightloss Clinics. Ginger can lower levels of cortisol in your body. That’s the stress hormone that makes you want to stress eat.
Tumeric
Tumeric is the main spice in curry and the element that gives curry that beautiful marigold color. Aside from adding zing to your cooking, turmeric is an anti-inflammatory supplement that reduces fat accumulation.
Green Tea
A study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that green tea, or a green tea supplement, may be able to help rev your metabolism and shed pounds. Compounds in the tea called catechins inhibit body fat from accumulating. Dr. Petre notes that green tea also slows down fat absorption and regulates your insulin levels.
Omega-3 Fish Oil
Not everyone loves to eat salmon even though it’s super healthy for you. If you want to avoid eating fish but still get the omega-3 fatty acids into your diet, just pop an omega-3 fish oil supplement. “It improves the blood flow to your muscles during exercise and decreases appetite,” says Dr. Petre.
