Anya Taylor-Joy always makes us smile. The clue is in the name!

Her red carpet looks never fail to make an impression, and the jaw-dropping yellow backless Dior Haute Couture by Maria Grazia Chiuri dress she wore to the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night was no exception. But even we weren’t prepared for the dramatic look she sported at the after party. And we don’t think you will be either…

For the after-party, the 25-year-old Queen’s Gambit actress stuck with the yellow color palette – as she should; when something works for you, you should stick with it! – but that’s where the similarities to her striking Emmys red carpet dress ended.

The actress slipped into something a little more comfortable, shall we say, as she attended the after-party in a silk and lace lingerie set in a much paler shade of yellow, which was once again the fine work of Dior Haute Couture by Maria Grazia Chiuri. The daring bralet and high waisted shorts set – which looks like it could have been worn by Taylor-Joy’s Queen’s Gambit character, Beth Harmon due to its unmistakable 1950s aesthetic – even came complete with a matching silk-gauze cape, and of course, the actress’s face mask was expertly matched in color and fabric too. Who knew protecting yourself and others from COVID could be so stylish?

As you can imagine, the seamlessly coordinated look turned heads and got the whole world talking. Taylor-Joy may not have won the award for the ‘Lead Actress in a Limited Series’ category – it went to Kate Winslet for her role in Mare of Easttown, although The Queen’s Gambit did take home the ‘Best Limited Series’ gong – but she won all of our best-dressed awards!

She even took to Instagram to thank the Dior team for their hard work on her Emmys red carpet dress (she reportedly helped design it too!) which we think was such a nice touch!

“Where to even begin. What an absolute privilege to be able to celebrate The Queens Gambit last night at @televisionacad . To be able to hug and hold and laugh. I am (and will be) forever grateful that we got to go out with a bang, together,” she wrote on her Instagram page, alongside some pictures of her breath-taking dress.

“Thank you to all of you who watched… and a huge THANK YOU to @mariagziachiuri and the house of @dior @diorbeauty for making my dream dress come true! I am beyond proud to see a design of mine brought so beautifully to life by the exquisite craftsmanship of the house and the styling of my day 1 ride or die @paulburgo …. My favourite dress I’ve worn and an evening I will never forget.THANK YOU!”

Congratulations to the Queen’s Gambit cast and crew on their Emmys win, and congrats – and thank you – to Taylor-Joy for showing us the meaning of ‘outfit goals’ twice in one night!
