There is no shortage of apps out there to entertain, motivate, and keep your life in order. But sometimes having too many options can cause sensory overload — which is often the case when you download a number of apps.
You may find your phone’s battery is dwindling over time — or is experiencing a loss in data that prevents you from using your phone the way you ordinarily would. The problem could be your apps — here are four apps every Apple store employee stopping using in 2020 because they ruin your phone.
Free Apps
Free apps seem too good to be true — because they are. You may pay nothing upfront to use them, but you’ll find these apps are likely collecting your data to sell to advertisers (because they have to make money somehow). Also: you shouldn’t be surprised to find that free apps will continually push for you to spend more and more for additional features.
Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger is an example of an app that doesn’t offer end-to-end encryption. Any message app that doesn’t provide this protection leaves your messages and personal information open to a major privacy invasion.
Apps That Track Location
You might be shocked to learn there are several apps that are tracking your location — even apps that have no business doing so. Maybe it’s fine with you to allow Google Maps or a weather app to access to your location — but you feel less excited about social media apps tracking your every move so that they can sell your info to advertisers.
You can find out which apps are tracking your location by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Settings. From here, you’ll be able to see which apps are tracking your location and then adjust the setting or delete the app.
The Facebook app is a notorious battery drainer and one that takes up a lot of data. It autoplays video, is constantly updating to provide new posts, and it has been discovered that the Facebook app tracks your online activity to sell your information to advertisers. The simplest solution of all is to delete the Facebook app and use Facebook via your browser.
