If you are one of those iPhone users whose motto is “the more apps, the better,” you are definitely making the most of your device. But, depending on the apps that you’ve downloaded, you could also be contributing to the slowing down of your phone. Certain apps simply hamper the speed of your iPhone. And if you’ve been noticing some stalling when you try to send a text message or access a website, specific apps could be to blame. We spoke with Tech Expert Miranda Yan, Founder of VinPit, who let us in on the five apps experts say are slowing down your iPhone SO much.
Facebook messenger
Yes, it’s convenient for keeping in touch with friends, but the Facebook Messenger program is one of the culprits in slowing down the OS, according to Yan. “It can quickly fill up storage space on iPhone due to its tendency to cache information and store it on your iPhone,” Yan says. “After some period, the accumulation of cached data in the iPhone significantly increases the shortage of memory space, and less memory space increases the lag in iPhone. Uninstalling the Facebook app from your iPhone and using it via the web seems to be another most convenient way to curb this issue.”
Non-optimized apps
Just because you see it in the App Store doesn’t mean it’s the best for your phone. “Many applications in the app store are still not optimized for iPhone OS, resulting in insufficient functionality,” Yan says. “Non-optimized applications take up more memory for processing and use more battery, resulting in a poor user experience. The most common approach is to use iPhone applications that have been optimized for this purpose.”
Social networking applications
“Social networking applications play a significant role in wasting batteries and slowing the iPhone,” Yan says. “This could be done due to auto-play videos, auto-download posts. The workaround for this is a plugin edition with social network applications instead of explicitly installed on an iPhone.”
Mail app
How damaging can it be to send and receive emails, you might be wondering?
“The mail app is a personal or business app that runs in the background constantly to update new messages, which contributes to slowness to the device, leading to delaying the system,” Yan says. “The cure for this is to use webmail services or disable the background process.”
Safari app
“Safari software is not the critical source of lag initially,” Yan says. “After leading the prolonged Safari usage, this contributes to a lot of browsing history and caches unwanted sticky cookies to store in device memory, leading to slowing down the device. The only approach for this is to clear the browsing details and cache daily.”
You don’t have to necessarily delete all of these apps, but removing what you can and changing the way you use other apps by clearing your browsing history and cache can help boost your phone’s speed.
