All apps take up storage space on your iPhone, but all apps are not created equal when it comes to the amount of space they consume. If you are finding yourself facing down an iPhone with limited storage space — one that alerts you with pop-up messages that your storage space has been significantly reduced, you may be searching for ways to increase your space. You can always buy more storage space, but going that route is going to drain your wallet quickly if you don’t take steps to free up storage space in other ways.
Start with your apps — many of them are consuming storage at a rapid rate. The general rule is that the more resource-intensive an app is, and the more that is required for it to do, the more storage space it takes up. These two apps take up way more storage than you realize — deleting them or changing how you use them can help.
1. Spotify
Spotify is one of our favorite apps for enjoying music and podcasts. As you can imagine though, all of the media files that it stores quickly clog your storage space. Storing data locally is a number one storage consumer, and Spotify keeps downloaded podcasts and albums stored on your device until you delete them.
The key words here are “delete them.” We would never suggest getting rid of your Spotify app because it’s simply too useful and fun to have on your device. But periodically going through your Spotify files and deleting old songs, podcasts, and playlists via Settings > Storage is the way to go.
2. Instagram
You aren’t alone in loving Instagram for its video and image content. But every time you post on IG, the app saves your images and videos and all of that stored data adds up fast. Deleting the Instagram app is the only surefire way to make a significant improvement in your storage capabilities, but that’s a difficult habit to break. You can make an instant difference in your storage by heading to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Instagram and offloading the app. This will remove the app, but retain your data so that you can return to it any time you’d like.
