Armie Hammer was spotted sunbathing in Southern California last week by paparazzi, and began trending on Twitter as the disgraced actor was seen with two new tattoos that many are dubbing to be “strange.” As the world awaits the premiere of House of Hammer, an upcoming docuseries surrounding the January 2021 “cannibal” scandal and affluent family of the Call Me By Your Name star, 35, many social media users are taking a closer look at his two new ink works.

The Social Network alum was photographed poolside at a hotel while shirtless, as he flaunted an upside-down, fine line triangle tattoo in the center of his chest. On his forearm, another similar piece is visible— a right-side-up triangle with a line going through the top of it. While many on Twitter deemed these to be “bizarre” and “wondered what they mean,” Fox News reports that the former tat is an “alchemy symbol for water” and the latter is “for air.”

One day later, Discovery+ unveiled the first trailer for House of Hammer, which contains confessionals from many of his former flames and shocking accusations against him. The special aims to “chronicle the deeply troubling accusations leveled against critically acclaimed actor Armie Hammer and the dark, twisted legacy of the Hammer dynasty,” according to its first look.

In the trailer, viewers hear from two of Hammer’s exes— Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison— who detail their experiences with the now disgraced On The Basis of Sex actor, and share harrowing messages that they alleged were sent by him. “In the beginning, I felt like this was all perfect; this was amazing,” Vucekovich says in the trailer, “But then things changed. He pushes your boundaries a little bit at a time. You’re his, completely … I mean, he said, ‘I’m 100% a cannibal.’ I’m freaking out.”

“It was all he wanted to ever talk about,” Morrison added. Vucekovich also said that a “mad” Hammer would tie her up until she was “completely immobilized.” Another notable participant in the series is Hammer’s aunt, Casey Hammer, who discussed the “dark, twisted secrets of the Hammer family” from her perspective.

Hammer’s ex-wife, journalist and business owner Elizabeth Chambers, filed for divorce in summer 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. In January 2021, allegations of sexual violence against him emerged, immediately impacting Hammer’s then burgeoning career in Hollywood.

On Instagram, messages allegedly sent from Hammer were leaked online by several young women, containing elaborate and violent sexual fantasies with chilling themes of cannibalism and assault. At the time, Hammer called them “vicious and spurious online attacks against me.”

The father of two was also accused of rape, and he denied this allegation. In 2021, Hammer spent nine months in a rehabilitation center after being accused of emotional and physical abuse. A lawyer for Hammer then told Vanity Fair, “All interactions between Mr. Hammer and his former partners were consensual,” adding, “They were fully discussed, agreed upon in advance with his partners and mutually participatory. The stories perpetuated on social media were designed to be salacious in an effort to harm Mr. Hammer, but that does not make them true.”

Most recently, Hammer was seen with Chambers and their family in Los Angeles after relocating from the Cayman Islands, where TMZ reported that he was working as a timeshare salesman. This public outing marked the first time the family was seen together since news about his new job broke.

Vanity Fair also recently reported that Hammer got a number of tattoos after divorcing Chambers, including “an outline of the Caymans above his knee, a heart that was inked by the in-house tattoo artist at Kaia Gerber’s birthday party to match two teenage boys, the letters ‘EGBA’ for ‘Everything’s gonna be alright’ and the word ‘chaos’ because he wants his life to be chaos.”

House of Hammer premieres on Discovery+ on September 2, 2022.
