A$AP Rocky has been released on bail of $550,000 shortly after being arrested and taken into custody at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, April 20th, straight after he and Rihanna returned from a short vacation in Barbados. It’s been reported that the 33-year-old rapper – who is expecting his first child with the 34-year-old “Diamonds” singer – was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department with assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s homeland security investigations team in connection with a non-fatal shooting in Hollywood in November last year.
According to reports, police had been investigating the “Praise the Lord (Da Shine)” rapper – real name Rakim Mayers – for his potential involvement in the 2021 shooting, which allegedly started with an “argument between two acquaintances” and then allegedly resulted in several shots being fired, after which the rapper and two acquaintances were said to have fled the scene.
According to police reports obtained by NBC News, the victim of the shooting told police that the "Good for You" rapper was walking with two other people and approached him on the street with a handgun, before shooting at him three to four times. The victim then said that he believed one of the bullets grazed his left hand, which coincided with a statement the LAPD made at the time. The statement also claimed that the victim had sustained a "minor injury" from the gunshot, adding that his assailants "fled on foot" following the shooting.
Although A$AP Rocky's lawyer, Alan Jackson, confirmed that his client had indeed been arrested, he declined to make any further comments. We can expect to see the "Sundress" rapper appear in court in connection with the arrest on August 17th.
This isn’t the first time the "Fashion Killa" hitmaker has been in trouble with the law, as he was previously given a two-year suspended sentence for his alleged involvement in an incident in Stockholm, Sweden back in August 2019, whereby he and two members of his entourage got into a fight with two other men. They were convicted of assault and ordered to pay more than $1,000 in damages.
The news of A$AP Rocky's arrest comes just a few days after rumors of his alleged infidelity spread like wildfire across the internet, which forced celebrity shoe designer Amina Muaddi, i.e., the woman he was rumored to have cheated on the Fenty Beauty founder with, to speak out to try and put an end to the allegations. Neither he nor Rihanna have directly addressed the rumors.
