You might not think much of toast, but it can do a lot for your health and diet. Yes, it is just bread, but it is also a base for what may be a really healthy breakfast or snack.

We all know that bread can be unhealthy, but you shouldn’t avoid all bread. Eating a slice or two of multigrain, whole grain or sourdough bread each day can actually be good for you. Especially if you top your toast with the right thing.

There is a reason why fancy types of toasts have become a popular brunch menu staple. We’ve all seen them topped with layers of avocado, salmon, banana or mushrooms – and this is because people are realizing that this is a great way to start your day with protein, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients.

And there is an easy way to make delicious toast at home, loaded with protein and vitamins, using just one simple spread. And the answer may surprise you.

Health experts recommend using avocado spread on your toast to fill yourself up with potassium, folate and vitamins B5, C, E and K.

According to Functional Nutritionist Risa Groux, CN, “Avocado is the perfect power house spread for anyone’s metabolism. This magical fruit contains roughly 400 mg or more of potassium which is essential for weight loss but almost double than what a banana provides, depending on the size.

“ It also contains over 20 vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients in addition to fiber. The quality fat in an avocado is essential for proper brain function and helps curb a sugar craving.”

And you don’t have to make an elaborate brunch-style avocado toast to get all of these benefits when you make toast at home. Registered Dietitian Trista Best told SheFinds that you can get an easy-to-use product at any grocery store when you want avocados quickly.

Avocado spread can be prepared at home or purchased at many grocery stores,” she said. “To prepare avocado spread, simply mash a ripe avocado with lemon juice, your favorite seasoning. This makes a nutrient-dense spread for your breakfast toast to boost your metabolism.”

And, Best said that eating avocados can even help improve your metabolism. She explained, “Avocados are full of healthy fats that will help to boost the rate at which your body burns calories, metabolism, and keep hunger at bay for longer periods. Both of these characteristics will help to prevent weight gain and improve metabolism.”
