Bangs might seem like a drastic hairstyle change, but if you’re looking to achieve a more youthful look, they might just be exactly what you need.
The right bangs can compliment your face shape, helping you feel more confident with how you look. Plus, they double as a great cover-up for forehead wrinkles–and, depending on the shape you choose, they might disguise your crow’s feet as well.
With that in mind, keep reading for some bangs hairstyles you should try to start looking 10 years younger.
Curtain Bangs
Curtain bangs are going viral on TikTok right now, so they're definitely the route to take if you want to fit in with the younger crowd.
These 70s-inspired bangs are the perfect 'starter bang' for those worried about taking the plunge. "Curtain bangs are the gateway to bangs, because they're super versatile," Emily Heser, stylist at Cutler Salon in New York City, tells Glamour. "They're long enough to grow out or pin back if you want, but they can also be cut into a shorter look."
Plus, they're a great way to frame your face and really accentuate your best features--and they conveniently cover pesky crow's feet.
Side-Swept Bangs
Side-swept bangs are the perfect option for those looking to freshen up their appearance but are unwilling to commit to a blunt fringe just yet. Plus, if they're done right, they can have an anti-aging effect as well.
Carrie Butterworth, a hairstylist at Roy Teeluck in New York City, tells Prevention: "If you're worried about forehead lines, a very long bang that can be swept to the side is a good option," Butterworth says. "It's like a nice little bit of window dressing for the face."
Brow-Skimming Bangs
The one mistake you want to steer clear of when getting bangs is cutting them too short. Instead, make sure that they at least hit the top of your brows.
Tippi Shorter, celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of MANE Society, tells Allure: "Brow-skimming bangs work great on more mature faces."
Hairstylist and salon owner, Nunzio Saviano, adds, "They’re almost like an accessory for the face," he explains. "They’re ageless—any woman can have bangs."
Layered Bangs
Layered bangs are a softer take on bangs that make them less blunt--and more flattering. Although blunt bangs look amazing on certain faces, a layered version is not as harsh and tends to fit a larger variety of face shapes.
Sophia Porter, hairstylist and makeup artist, tells Reader's Digest, "Bangs are a fantastic way to add softness and hide any dynamic lines on a person’s forehead. Keeping a soft wave in the rest of the hair with wispy bangs is a fresh, stylish look for women of all ages."
