PUMA, Target And More Team Up With Barbie For The 60th Anniversary

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Barbie doll, several brands such as PUMA, Target, Unique Vintage, and more are releasing special edition collections including sneakers, luggage, bathing suits and more.

The fashion collaborations, geared towards millennial women and Gen Z girls, feature original Barbie logos alongside inspirational messages such as “girls can change the world.”

In 1959, Barbie’s creator Ruth Handler debuted the doll, named after her own daughter, at the New York Toy Fair. The doll would go on to become a household name and a hero product for Mattel, and later face backlash for representing an unattainable beauty standard. The brand has released more physically diverse versions of Barbie in recent years, including more for the 60th anniversary.

Here are the brands joining Barbie in celebrating her diamond anniversary:

The brand released a capsule collection of sneakers and apparel on March 29 for “the new era of Barbie girls.” Priced $35 for a Candy Pink tee, to $100 for a pair of trendy chunky sneakers, the collection pulls inspiration from PUMA’s own retro ‘90s cross-training collection, according to a release.

The retailer has released a collection for girls aged 5-10, consisting of 8 apparel pieces and a few trendy accessories, priced $7.99-$24.99 with a size range of XS-XL. Graphic tees featuring the words “girls can change the world” and “know no limits” are among the clothing items, as well as a denim jacket, tulle skirt, clear tote and more.

“This collection is an opportunity for Barbie to connect with girls through fun fashion that also inspires an aspirational future,” Janet Hsu, Chief Franchise Management Officer for Mattel, said in a release.

This collection from retro-inspired clothing brand Unique Vintage makes some of Barbie’s more iconic looks shoppable, such as the black and white chevron swimsuit, sparkle-studded Peaches and Cream dress, the blue Malibu Barbie swimsuit. The collection is available in an extended range of sizes XS-5X so that, “every woman can have her own Life-Size moment.”
