Finding the perfect pink lipstick is a major summer goal, especially when our Instagram feeds are filled with bright, bold lip colors. Pink lipsticks have become a major trend this season and I love the vibrant and playful vibes they add to my glam. Going bright-lipped is daunting on its own, but finding the right shade when you’re a brown girl is even harder.

Most makeup artists and beauty experts will advise brown-skinned women to go with a mauve tone or lean towards the orange/pink tones, but finding these exact shades can be hard if you don’t know where to start.

This may seem like a science at first, but I have a 2-step hack that will help you find the perfect pink shade every single time! When shopping for the pink lipsticks, you need to:

Trust us, there’s a pink shade to complement every skin tone. Everyone has different undertones and they play a huge role in how the shade will look. It’s recommended that those with warmer undertones should try warmer pinks like corals, while those with cooler undertones should opt for a true pink. If you have olive undertones, then a deeper pink is the shade for you as it adds warmth to the skin. Those with neutral tones can pull off any shade of pink–lucky!

If understanding the whole undertones thing is too confusing, then I say just go with what you think looks good. Once you’ve found that dreamy, fun and flirty pink shade, I encourage you to rock it with confidence and ignore the rules!
