The 4 Biggest Beauty Trends Of 2022–& How To Wear Them Yourself
January 23, 2022 by Merrell Readman
We’re already nearly a month into 2022, and while much of that has been spent inside due to an unfortunately timed surge of Covid, this also provides the perfect opportunity to nail down your look for the new year and try out the biggest trends before wearing them out in public. Last year saw the rise of faux freckles, nose contouring, and Euphoria-esque glittering eye looks, begging the question: what does 2022 have in store for beauty trends? To get the professional take, we spoke with Kristen Fortier, Makeup Artist & Product Innovation Lead for Crunchi Cosmetics so you can start practicing your application techniques and choose the trends that best compliment your features as the year begins.
This trend began in 2021 and appears to have carried into the new year with an emphasis on minimalism when it comes to your face makeup routine. “Glowing skin and light makeup that showcase the natural textures of the skin are all the rage,” notes Fortier. “Glowy, lighter makeup not only looks incredible but it’s a trend I don’t see going anywhere anytime soon.”
Get the look: Thankfully this is an easy look to pull off on your own, and Fortier suggests focusing on skincare to get the perfect glowing base to work from. “Makeup goes on smoother and you can get away with less product by prepping with the right skincare products,” she explains. “Apply a small amount of light or medium coverage foundation by blending with a brush and spot concealing afterward only in the areas you need more coverage.” While the days of an intense highlight have since passed, use a light illuminating highlight to accentuate the high points of your face for a natural glow
Blush has made a major resurgence this year, adding color back into our cheeks as we work through a gray winter. Powder blush was once the product of choice, but now more than ever a cream variation allows for a more natural glow that can be easily blended so as not to look overdone. “Blush does not have to be boring and is a product that can take any makeup look from good to great. It is always an excellent way to add a gorgeous pop of color to your overall look that is wearable for every day,” notes Fortier.

Adding blush to your lids and lips can also play into a highly trendy monochromatic look.
Last year called for bold and beautiful lip colors, but Fortier sees hyper-glossy lips being the next biggest trend of the year. This doesn’t mean you can’t still play with color, but enhancing your natural, glowing complexion with a simple gloss allows for your beauty routine to become even more minimal in the new year. Plus, you don’t need a mirror to reapply on the go.
Get the look: Lipgloss looks great on everyone and is easily updated to fit any look. “Lipglosses are so versatile and can be worn alone or with your favorite lipstick. The options are endless and not to mention that glossy lips give a younger more youthful appearance,” notes Fortier. Looking for a good simple gloss to your collection? Hydrogloss® is the perfect natural formula that will boost your own lip color for an effortlessly chic look.
Veering away from the bright eye looks of 2021, neutral shades are coming back in a big way, warming up your skin and working as a universally flattering shadow option. “Neutrals aren’t going anywhere when it comes to beauty trends, this year we are just taking neutrals up a notch,” notes Fortier.
Get the look: Adding warmer tones to your eye can help to add some natural drama and definition, and focusing shadow in your crease will effortlessly draw more attention to your eye area. “Think warmer tones, like copper or terracotta eyeshadows, that really enhance any eye color and can be worn year-round,” suggests Fortier. “More saturated neutral colors will play a huge role in the makeup looks of 2022 and I definitely see them sticking around.”
