The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants featured one pair of unique jeans that magically fit a group of four friends – all different shapes and sizes. While one single pair of jeans of the same size fitting multiple different women is highly unlikely, finding the best pair of cropped jeans that look great on everyone turned out to be less difficult.
Since its resurgence on the jean scene, I have been after the magical unicorn pair that is the best cropped jeans. Being only 5”4, I constantly had relationship issues with cigarette skinnies and flares for either not being short enough to accentuate my peekaboo ankles OR being too unforgiving on my body. Alas, I was not willing to give up. Was it so hard to find a pair that looked flawless with loafers but didn’t cost me a months rent to hem them? When looking for the best cropped denim, I discovered that there are a few key elements you need to asses.
1. Check For Good Sizing Options For Cropped Jeans
You want your cropped jeans to feature a range of size options. Besides just your average waist size, it’s great if they also come in petite, regular and longs for every height.
2. Look At The Closures On The Cropped Jeans
The best cropped jeans always have a high-waist with quality closures. You don’t want buttons or zippers breaking while you wear your new cropped denim in. Bonus points if they include a panel to slim your figure.
3. Test Out The Comfort Of The Cropped Jeans
Are the cropped jeans ACTUALLY comfortable? There’s nothing worse than a pair of jeans that you have to do 27 lunges in the morning to stretch out. Look for a pair that gives you wiggle room to treat yourself to that pizza on a Thursday night.
4. Check Out The Wash Of The Cropped Jeans
Do these jeans have a good wash? The last thing you want is to throw your jeans in the laundry only to have them come out three shades lighter than they were when you put them in. You also don’t want the dye to constantly rub off and give you black and blue hands.
After what seemed like months of agonizing shopping, I came across a high-waisted pair while perusing Nordstrom. I instantly took them to the dressing room to try on and to my surprise, I had to ask for a size down. Once I found the proper size I was in awe. They weren’t too long or too short. They were stretchy in a comfortable way but not in a way that loses the shape easily. The high waist silhouette and button closures allow for just enough wiggle room for those days you’re really bloated or ate too much pasta. In fact, they were just right. I don’t just consider them the best cropped jeans I own, I also file them under the best black jeans I own thanks to the gorgeous in-between black wash.
I wore them twice that week and couldn’t believe the number of compliments I received. I mean, people actually stopped me in the street to ask me where I got them! I felt like I held the key to the best hidden denim secret in New York. To add to my delight, I saw a paparazzi photo of Selena Gomez wearing the same exact jeans out in LA. If they’re good enough for Selena’s secret date with the Biebs, then that’s good enough for me.
