Rounded Bangs
Having curly hair may have caused you to steer clear of bangs in the past, but a rounded, bouncy fringe is now more popular than ever. “The halo fringe cut is at the height of popularity right now as curly girls are declaring “yes we can have bangs”. It’s very youthful, as it frames the face, is full of volume and makes a statement. This style is best worn as voluminous as possible,” says Michelle O’Connor, artistic director for Matrix.
Curly Shag
The shag style is another uber popular cut this year, and for good reason. It provides your hair with an effortlessly cool vibe that instantly makes you appear young and chic. O’Connor explains, “It’s ultra-modern, has a sleekness that hugs the face and allows you to play with the piecey-ness that only curly tendrils can give you.” Particularly with curly hair, shag will offer the volume and bounce needed to hide your age with ease.
Long Layers
For a more understated cut, long layers will help to add some dimension to your curls which will keep your hair from dragging down your appearance. “This cut allows for weight to be removed from the mid lengths and ends, thus creating a more tapered silhouette, and bringing balance into the shape. This is excellent for curly girls that want to see distinct shape and desire a slimmer contour around the cheeks,” says O’Connor.
Classic Bob
The bob is not exclusive to straight haired women and can look just as youthful and fresh on curly hair. “Whether it’s a-line, stacked, with a fringe, chin length or longer, this cut is timeless. Anytime you add a curl or coil hair pattern to a cut, you are always going to get an element of youthful grandeur, not to mention a turning back of the hands of Father Time,” explains O’Connor.
