If you’re seeking a “new you” this New Year, you’re likely making efforts to improve your health—and maybe even shed a few pounds. It probably goes without saying that making changes to your diet is one of the first steps you should take toward a healthier body. Gut health, in particular, plays a significant role in overall wellness, influencing everything from digestion to immunity and even mental clarity—and your diet is crucial to all of this. According to Julia Loggins, a gut health expert and advocate, adopting a diet tailored to your body’s unique needs can reduce inflammation, promote fat loss, and support long-term vitality.

In a recent TikTok, Loggins shared a few foods that individuals with blood type O can add to their plate to “bust belly fat and shrink inflammation.” Even if you don’t have type O blood, you may find these tips helpful as well. “Busting belly fat isn’t just about looking good,” she explains. “It’s about living long and living with a high quality of life and incredible energy.” Here are seven foods she recommends for busting belly fat and reducing inflammation, along with a few vegetarian-friendly alternatives.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
salmon

1. Seafood

Love seafood? You're in luck! Loggins recommends this type of food, particularly salmon and sardines, which she describes as "especially beneficial" for blood type O individuals. She suggests opting for wild-caught options, either fresh or in canned form, as they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and anti-inflammatory properties.

bison

2. Bison

While meats like chicken, turkey, and beef may be more popular, 2025 is a great time to give bison a try. "Bison is healthier for you than beef," Loggins says. "It’s easy to digest, contains more minerals, vitamins, and protein, and has less fat." This lean meat is a great option if you're looking to add more nutrients to your diet and reduce inflammation.

pate on bread

3. Liver

It's not the most widely praised food out there, but as it turns out, liver could do wonders for your health. "Excellent for your blood, great for your belly," Loggins shares. She notes that adding that organic liver is particularly beneficial if you struggle with anemia. She suggests sautéing it with coconut aminos to make it palatable. You may be surprised by how good it tastes!

bone broth

4. Bone Broth

Next time you're cooking up some soup, add bone broth to the mix. Loggins says it packs "20 grams of protein and healthy fats" into each serving. "It’s fantastic for your stomach, great for digestion, and will bust your cravings and satiate hunger," she raves. Sign us up! Choose beef, chicken, or turkey, store-bought or homemade—and season it with parsley for additional benefits. Yum!

green juice

5. Green Juices

Speaking of parsley... Loggins recommends incorporating green juices like celery juice and wheatgrass juice into your routine to shed fat. However, she advises skipping spinach due to its high oxalate content. "Oxalates create kidney stones," she cautions. Opt for juices high in chlorophyll to support detoxification and reduce inflammation.

blueberries

6. Blueberries

Bring on the berries! "Blueberries, especially organic ones, are the healthiest fruit for you," Loggins emphasizes to people with blood type O. Packed with antioxidants and low in sugar, they make an excellent addition to an anti-inflammatory diet—and they come with so many other incredible benefits.

seafood

7. Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables like seaweed are often overlooked—but as it turns out, they offer exceptional benefits. "Excellent for your thyroid, fantastic for your belly, and really helps eliminate your belly fat," Loggins lists. Adding these nutrient-dense foods to your diet can be as simple as chowing down on a seaweed salad or sprinkling seaweed flakes onto meals.
