Prepping the Skin
A key to that flawless, smooth foundation is prepping. Those with deep-set wrinkles shouldn't skip a proper skincare routine in order to achieve a radiant finish.
“The very best way to hide fine lines & wrinkles with foundation actually has nothing to do with the makeup and everything to do with how you prep your skin beforehand with skincare. The biggest misconception in cosmetics is that people should rely on just their foundation to give them a younger appearance. The real trick to younger-looking skin is to layer skincare before applying your foundation,” says makeup artist Jennifer Bradley.
Applying foundation straight onto dry, unprepped skin will further highlight fine lines and texture while also emphasizing your age.
How to prep
Not sure where to start when it comes to prepping your skin? Bradley has some helpful tips!
“Here’s the quickest way to prep, tighten, and smooth out mature skin: after cleansing your skin with a good cleanser, apply a hydrating spray. Then, layer on a skin-firming/tightening serum while your skin is damp,” says Bradley. “Finally, apply a thin layer of a moisturizer created specifically for filling in lines and wrinkles again while the skin is damp.”
We highly recommend Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx® No-Filter Primer that makeup artists can't stop raving about!
By following these steps before foundation application, you'll notice those deep-set wrinkles looking a little more plump while making the most of your foundation.
