Managing diabetes doesn’t mean giving up fruit—it’s all about choosing the right ones! While some fruits can cause blood sugar spikes due to their naturally high glucose content, others are packed with fiber and essential nutrients that actually help balance glucose levels.
Janine Bowring, ND, a naturopathic doctor, TV personality, an author with over 1.1M TikTok followers, recently revealed three of the best fruits to add to your diet if you’re managing diabetes, aiming to “balance your glucose levels,” or looking to shed some weight and “burn fat.” According to her, blueberries, avocados, and olives are some of the best fruits to include in a diabetes-friendly diet. 1. Blueberries
Bowring says blueberries, and even other berries, “tend to be low in glycemic index,” meaning that “they’re not going to spike your blood glucose levels.” She notes that they’re very rich in antioxidants, which provide other benefits such as fighting free radicals and reducing oxidative stress.

2. Avocado
The monounsaturated fats in avocados help improve insulin sensitivity, which can assist in better blood sugar management. Additionally, avocados are rich in fiber, which slows down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.
Bowring says they’re “loaded with healthy fats and vitamin E,” and this popular fruit is “really good at stabilizing blood sugar levels.”

3. Olives
Yes, olives are actually a fruit! “We know they’re also loaded with polyphenols, which are very stabilizing with our antioxidant status. Plus it’s a healthy fat, so it will help stabilize blood sugar levels," she notes, similar to avocados.
Including olives in your diet can also provide heart-healthy benefits and support overall well-being.
