One of the biggest struggles of trying to style thin or thinning hair is its tendency to law flat and lifeless. If you want to create a more voluminous and vivacious look, utilizing layers and parting your hair in a new way can help.

We asked Ghanima Abdullah, hair expert and cosmetologist at The Right Hairstyles, for inspiration to bring to your stylist if you’re tired of dull-looking and flat hair. Read on for 2 timeless, easy and stunning hairstyles as well as volume-creating styling techniques for thinning hair.

The 100+ Best New Beauty Launches Of 2024

Cut #1— Pixie with Layers

Countless celebrities and icons of pop culture have rocked a pixie cut— from Princess Diana's elegant style to Winona Ryder's edgy signature look. It's a timeless favorite because of its ability to draw attention to the face and if cut with layers, it can create the look of even more volume in your hair. The 90s are back, baby!

Abdullah advises to ask your stylist about the amount and placement of layers that will help create volume and body in your hair. She says to tell them that your main objective is to create more volume.

"Generally, pixies that add volume are cut very short in the back, a little long around the ears and long up top," Abdullah explains. "The layers can be cut to swirl around the head to hide thinning in whichever areas it's most apparent." She adds that it's a good idea to take a few pictures into the salon to see what will look best on you.

#2— Blunt Bob with Deep Side Part

Whether you want to emulate Victoria Beckham's early aughts Spice Girl cut or Ana de Armas's look in the latest James Bond film, bobs are versatile and popular because they can easily create more volume.

"The thing about a bob is that, if it's blunt, it can make the ends bunch up when curled lightly and give them more body," Abdullah notes. The deep part is to create more volume on the top of the head by pushing more hair to one side of your head. "This is great for hiding thinning on top," adds Abdullah.

Another pro styling tip is to blow dry your hair upside down or use your fingers to move the roots. This "can create volume," Abdullah notes, suggesting to also "apply a little mousse first, as it can coat each strand to give the appearance of thicker hair." Then, you can blow dry and style.

Ultimately, being brave enough to make an epic chop like these two styles can help you create volume, make your hair look thicker and conceal thinning. We're sure we'll see these two ageless looks on countless celebs in 2022!
