Fat gets a bad rap in the wellness world. While it’s true that staying away from saturated fat-loaded processed foods is crucial if you want to lose weight, not all fats are bad for you. In fact, healthy fats are an essential part of any balanced diet and can even help you shed pounds faster when incorporated into nutritious meals. Luckily, there are many fantastic options out there—including one that tastes great on tacos, toast, and more.
To discover the best healthy fat you can eat regularly while slimming down, we spoke to health experts Lisa Richards, nutritionist and creator of The Candida Diet, and Catherine Gervacio, registered dietitian and nutrition writer for Living.Fit. How avocado can reduce belly fat
Avocado toast lovers rejoice! Gervacio says that this tasty green fruit is fantastic for weight loss. Not only does avocado taste great in a range of meals (like tasty, weight loss-friendly salads), but it's also one of the best healthy fats around, offering numerous health benefits.
"Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat which offers a lot of cardiovascular and digestive benefits while losing weight," Gervacio says. She points out that "It is rich in vitamins E, C, and A to act as antioxidants to keep the body healthy."
Vitamin C, in particular can be a great weapon in your weight loss journey (not to mention your skin health). "The vitamin C content of avocados can fight off free radicals that can slow down the metabolic rate," she points out. Amazing!
Richards agrees, calling this food "an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which can help lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease."
Then there's the fiber content, which can play a significant role in weight loss by improving digestion and keeping you fuller longer. "Whether added to a salad, spread on toast, or used as a healthy fat in cooking, avocados offer numerous health benefits that make them a great addition to any diet," Richards concludes. Yum!
