It’s not uncommon for those with mature skin to struggle with dryness. Research shows that the skin loses moisture over time, making it harder to maintain its hydration levels and dewy, youthful glow as you age. “The skin becomes drier and thinner with more laxity,” Dr. Marla Diakow of Schweiger Dermatology Group, tells The Strategist, who recommends using products that “strengthen and thicken the dermis” to promote moisture retention in order to improve the skin’s hydration. That’s where night creams and overnight masks come into play. Products like belif’s Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask are considered the best night creams for dry aging skin because they are designed to deliver lasting hydration and nourishment to dry skin while you sleep, ensuring that you wake up looking more refreshed and supple.

Promising belif Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask Reviews:

"This deeply hydrates and I wake up with plump skin. I like to keep this in the fridge so it’s super cooling and relaxing when I put it on. It really is pillow-proof because it dries to a jelly texture after 5-10 minutes. I’ve used it almost every day for 2 weeks and it looks like I haven’t made a dent in it. This is my favorite sleeping mask!" - sophiet16

"I usually get my moisturizers and sleep masks shipped from my family in Korea but I thought I’d give this a shot. Just a tiny bit goes a long way and I wake up with plumper, younger looking skin. It’s not sticky, doesn’t end up on my pillow or flaking off while I sleep. Doesn’t have an overpowering scent, all in all, a very good product, will definitely buy again if I ever run out!" - LisaPark922

"Love this! After I use it, I wake up with soft, glowing skin. The texture is so interesting - like a memory foam gel almost! The scent is very similar to the aqua bomb moisturizer. A little goes a long way, so this will last me forever! :)" - SBM1

When To Apply An Overnight Mask

There's a lot of confusion surrounding when to apply an overnight mask into an existing skincare routine. The experts at belif recommend incorporating the Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask after or instead of moisturizer depending on how dry your skin is. Just apply a thin layer to evenly across your face and leave it on overnight to reap it hydrating, skin-healthy benefits.

Dr. Audrey Kunin, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of DERMAdoctor, doesn't believe that a sleeping mask should be used every The Zoe Report night and tells  that swapping your moisturizer for an overnight mask should happen "every other night" for the best results.

Other Ways To Get Rid Of Dry Skin

Applying a night cream or overnight mask isn't the only way to combat dry, aging skin. Here are other ways that dermatologists suggest maintaining a healthy and hydrated complexion:

Always Use Moisturizer

Daily usage of a moisturizer is an easy and effective way to strengthen your skin's moisture barrier, which will help improve its ability to retain moisture and stay hydrated. Lisa Adams, Skincare expert at Curél Brand, recommends opting for formulas with hydrating ingredients like ceramides and glycerin. "Ceramides are naturally present in healthy skin and are the vital building blocks to keeping skin’s moisture barrier functioning properly," she explains. "When ceramides are lost, your skin becomes dry and damaged. Glycerin, a humectant, keeps things moist for both immediate and long-lasting hydration."

Gently Exfoliate Frequently

Exfoliating with a gentle exfoliant helps remove dead skin cells from your complexion, which Adams says help improve the appearance of the skin. "Gently exfoliating removes the oldest dead skin cells on the outermost surface of the skin, which in turn improves the skin’s texture and radiance," she explains, noting that you should only do it a few times a week to prevent irritating your skin.

Removing those dead skin cells will also help improve the efficacy of your hydrating skincare products by giving them better access to the cells to be absorbed better.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water helps hydrate skin from within, according to Adams. Your skin loses moisture to the environment; and the drier the environment is, the more water you’ll lose overnight and therefore the more you’ll need to drink the next day to replenish the moisture loss that occurred through your skin," she says.

Avoid Hot Showers & Baths

“Hot temperatures can strip the skin of natural moisturizers,” notes Adams, who also recommends applying a body lotion immediately after you get out of the shower or tub to lock in moisture before it's lost.
