If you’re dedicated to using foundation and concealer to achieve a smoother complexion over 40, while also wanting to maintain a hydrated and supple look, it’s essential not to skip a vital step in your makeup routine: applying primer first. Many experts swear by primer, particularly for mature skin.

In an enlightening TikTok video, professional makeup artist and beauty blogger Erica Taylor highlighted why the $42 Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx No-Filter Primer, available at Sephora, is highly regarded for mature skin. Its blurring and smoothing properties make it a standout choice.

How The Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx No-Filter Primer Makes Skin Look ‘Smoother’ Over 40

In the above clip, Taylor explained why she loves using the Peter Thomas Roth product to conceal “lines, pores and texture.” As she applied the primer, the beauty expert noted that it smooths “lines and texture” while also adding a “little color.” She advised putting on a “thin layer” without “too much skincare” underneath, noting that she just applied “moisturizer and serum” beforehand.

Taylor then recommended waiting 3 to 7 minutes. She applied primer to one side of her face, leaving the other bare to highlight the contrast in skin texture and smoothness.

"I'm 46. it feels, I mean, a little like shrink wrap, but I don't care. I dig it,"  Taylor said while showing the results. "It feels tighter and smoother."

She proceeded to apply the Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Luminous Hydrating Foundation ($42 at Sephora) on top to see if the Peter Thomas Roth product truly functions effectively as a primer.

"What? look at that," Taylor said, astounded by the difference. "I'm kind of shook," she said, noting that she felt like there was a "filter" on her skin even though she filmed it while "filter-free."

According to Sephora's website, the Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx No-Filter Primer is said to "visibly tighten, firm, and blur the look of fine lines and pores for a temporary effect and flawless makeup application." It is also suitable for those with "normal, dry, oily and combination" skin types.
