It's common knowledge that protein is essential for the body, especially for your hair, skin and nails. Protein is particularly beneficial for those with aging skin. According to dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu, "If you don’t eat enough protein, you are depriving your skin of the amino acids that go into making collagen (which makes your skin strong) and elastic tissue (which makes it supple)." Here's one protein in particular that can be your saving grace if you experience aging, sagging skin: Salmon!

Salmon is the one protein you should be eating if you have sagging skin. That's because the fish is filled with nutrients beneficial for skin health like omega-3 fatty acids, B-12 vitamins, and selenium. Let's look at these nutrients and minerals a little closer, shall we?
Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and keep the skin moisturized and resilient. According to nutritionist Dr. Chris Kesser, "Consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may lead to smoother, younger-looking skin with a visible reduction in inflammatory skin conditions like acne and psoriasis."
Salmon is also rich in B-12 vitamins, which are vital to your skin's health. According to nutritionist Dr. Josh Axe, "Vitamin B-12 is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails because it plays a major part in cell reproduction."
And you can't forget about selenium, a mineral with powerful antioxidants. "Selenium is an extremely vital mineral for the human body as it increases immunity, takes part in antioxidant activity that defends against free radical damage and inflammation," says Dr. Axe.
So whether it be in a bagel and lox or in your favorite sushi roll, be sure to add salmon to your diet for healthy and youthful-looking skin!
