Finding the right hairstyle  is easier said than done. You definitely want to make sure that it’s flattering and that it highlights your best features. Several factors have to be considered too such as your hair type, lifestyle, and most of all, your face shape.

With summer right around the corner, chances are you’re looking forward to your next hair makeover. How about getting your locks chopped and opting for a shorter hairstyle? To find out which cut would look best for your face shape, we reached out to hair experts at Classic Beauty Studio. Keep reading for some recommendations from Kadeisha Placide of their Management Team.

The Best Short Hairstyles For Each Face ShapeSquare

“For those with square-shaped faces, selecting a cut that softens the angular features is essential for a flattering appearance. For a look that complements the bone structure, consider a side parted style, which will offset the appearance. Long layers can also be flattering and will help to disguise the sharp angles of the face.”

Round

“The most flattering hairstyles for ladies with round faces are those that add definition and shape. In particular, long layered cuts and choppy pixie cuts tend to look best.”

Oval

“Oval faces can suit a wide variety of hairstyles. For those with oval shaped faces who like short hair, a blunt bob hair cut or lob cut with subtle layers works well. If one prefers long hair, on the contrary, they can opt for minimal layers or style the hair with waves or curls to keep from dragging down the face.”

Heart

“A long side-swept cut will give the appearance of a narrower forehead while drawing eyes down to the bottom of the face. One can also pair this cut with waves or curls starting below the ear to even out angular jawline. Alternatively, a side-parted pixie can also appear gorgeous on a heart face shape, as can a bob haircut, which will ensure fullness around the jaw.”

Rectangular

“A soft layered cut can enhance cheekbones while softening up the corners of the face. If one does opt for a long length, they can try styling the hair with a blowout or waves which will add horizontal volume and soften the sharp angles of the face.”

Diamond

“Those with diamond-shaped faces usually aim to soften the appearance of their sharp angles. For a soft look, one can consider a medium or long layered cut worn with tousled waves and a deep side part. They can also opt for a sleek ponytail for a look that will show off the cheekbones while also widening the appearance of the forehead.”

Hair Care Habits You Should Follow For The SummerApply proper sunscreen for your hair.

“The skin isn’t the only part of the body that absorbs damaging UV rays from the sun; hair does too. Shop for hair care products that include the right amount of sunscreen. There’s a variety of shampoos, conditioners, sprays, oils, and masks to choose from. We love Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Veil spray. It all depends on which one works best for your hair type and lifestyle.”

Avoid excessive heat.

“As temperatures warm up, the upkeep for styling does become more demanding. The more [heat you’re manipulating to your hair] to sustain a style, the more heat damage you are adding on. Lose the blow dryers and heat tools and opt for air drying or a protective style (ex. braids, twist, wig).”

Switch to a clarifying shampoo and conditioner.

“In the summer, most people tend to wash their hair more frequently to deal with sweat and grime. We suggest using a clarifying, or anti-residue shampoo once a week to clear away product buildup and chemicals. Just be sure to follow with a deep-conditioning treatment.”
