As you grow older you may feel compelled to veer towards shorter hairstyles as they’re easier to manage and require considerably less effort to look chic. However, certain cuts can actually age your face, making you appear years older simply by the features that your hair accentuates. If you’re planning to make a chop or are looking to update your already short crop, these are the four best stylist recommended cuts to turn back the clock on your appearance and instantly make you look younger.
Classic Bob
The bob is one of the most traditionally flattering looks, so it’s only natural that it will highlight the strong points of your face at any age. Gina Rivera, beauty expert and owner of Phenix Salon Suites explains, “As we mature, removing some weight from the hair allows for added volume and movement which are both very youthful. To create an extra youthful look, add some feathery bangs that will contribute to framing the face and softening facial features.”
The Shag
Shag has become popular in recent months as a “cool girl” cut, and it works well in a shorter style as well. “The shaggy layers allow for fullness and volume at the crown, especially if a root boosting product is used when styling. The look is also easy to modify by adding more layers or slightly changing the length. Perfect for creating a carefree, chic, look,” says Rivera.
The Pixie
This classic haircut is great for accentuating your facial features and enhancing your natural beauty while working for a variety of hair textures.“The pixie is perfect for bringing out the eyes and emphasizing cheekbones which can draw away from items like fine lines,” says Rivera. “The key with this style as we mature is to leave the top at the crown slightly longer and then add product to create a fun, tousled look.”
Asymmetrical Cut
This cut will add unique dimension and volume to your hair which will allow you to appear younger and your hair thicker. Rivera explains, “Asymmetrical cuts are extremely trendy and can be worn with every texture of hair including straight and fine or full and curly. Nowadays, we’re even seeing asymmetrical bangs that are shorter on one side and angled to be long as they go across the face. It’s much easier to appear youthful when you’re stylish and this principle applies here.”
