The One Ordering Mistake You Make Every Time You Go To McDonald’s, According To An Employee

November 28, 2017 by Emily Belfiore

You can't go wrong with McDonald's. The fast food chain has been a go-to spot for years, thanks to its expansive menu of delicious and affordable food. But employees of the longtime chain say that customers make the same mistakes every time they order their food. In fact, it's so common that you may be making it, too!

In a recent Quora thread, McDonald's employees revealed their favorite McDonald's ordering hacks. Some staff members offered ways to save money on common menu items like the Sausage McMuffin and the Big Mac, while others shared the best (and worst!) times to visit the store. But, it was this tip about requesting that your food be served fresh that really got us thinking!

Quora user and McDonald's employee Chuck Chan addressed the common misperception that you should order your fries "without salt" in order to make sure that you're getting fresh fries. But according to Chan, this creates more of a hassle for the cooks and holds up the kitchen.

"The fry person will need to wipe down the station, the fry scoop, and clear the area for the new batch to keep salt from contaminating the new batch," he wrote. "The fry person might not even fill up your container as full due to this fuss. And if any fries fall out of the bag/container, they wont put more in because the rest of the fries may have already been salted."

Instead, Chan suggests asking that your fries be made fresh to eliminate all of this fuss and to keep the staff working efficiently.

"All you need to do is simply ask for "fresh" fries. The "runner" (person who assembles your order) will just need to be mindful, warn the fry guy, and put your bag to the side while waiting for fries. And the fry person just needs to make a specific size for the runner when the new batch gets done. It wont be much of a problem for anyone, and this won't halt the entire fry production line," he said.

Wow, good to know! Chan said that this also applies to the burgers, but asking for them to be made fresh may take around five extra minutes to prepare.
