Billie Eilish made waves at the Grammys this year, and it wasn’t just her performance that got people talking. After winning Record of the Year, Eilish made a very humble acceptance speech, but not everyone found it endearing.
The 19-year-old dedicated her win to Megan Thee Stallion, who she insisted deserved the award.
"This is really embarrassing for me," Eilish said. "Megan, girl, I was going to write a speech about how you deserve this. But then I was like, 'There's no way they're gonna choose me.' I was like, 'It's hers.'"
The singer continued, "You deserve this. You had a year that I think is untoppable. You are a queen. I want to cry thinking about how much I love you."
Eilish also asked the crowd to give some applause to the rapper. "Can we just cheer for Megan Thee Stallion, please?" she said.
Although Meg might not have won the coveted Record of the Year award, she did not go home empty-handed. The rapper received three Grammys: Best New Artist, Rap Song and Rap Performance.
Many fans agreed with Billie that Meg deserved a fourth award on Grammys Sunday. They took to Twitter to discuss the award show moment, and it wasn't all complimentary.
our annual tradition of hearing white artists tell Black artists they deserve the awards they're not winning

Macklemore, Adele and Billie Eilish have all done the “I won but a Black artist deserved this” speech and even when they right, it’s embarrassing for everyone involved! #GRAMMYs

No disrespect to Billie Eilish, whose music I love, and who handled that graciously. But that is the most #Grammys move EVER, to pat themselves on the back for how often they've honored Beyonce and then, AGAIN, pass her over for the big prizes. Absolutely insane.

Billie does have at least one A-lister in her corner though. Chrissy Teigen tweeted about the situation, defending Eilish against critics.
winning record of the year sucks because you can’t enjoy it when everyone’s telling you why you don’t deserve it. it’s just shit. people suck. and it’s not the record of the year winner.
