Hemp Oil
As attitudes about cannabis begin to shift and more states legalize medical marijuana, a great deal of attention is being placed on the health and even beauty benefits found in this plant. It’s worth clarifying: hemp is not marijuana. Hemp oil is derived from the cannabis sativa plant, contains less than 0.3 percent THC, and therefore, in no way, contains psychoactive compounds.
Hemp seed oil is a whole other version of hemp — one that has been extracted from hemp seeds and contains little to no THC, according to MindBodyGreen.com. The reason why hemp seed oil is so sought after has everything to do with its fatty acid content — and that’s also what makes it an incredible ingredient to add to anti-aging serums and highly moisturizing body lotions.
Cannabliss Bliss Body Oil ($60)
Brands like Cannabliss integrate hemp seed oil with other nourishing ingredients like angelica and ginseng and the result is products like this highly absorbent oil (similar to argan oil) that keeps your skin soft and smooth, but never greasy, for hours.
And we’re only beginning to tap into the potential benefits of rich hemp seed oil and its close cousin CBD oil in skincare.
Shereene Idriss, a dermatologist in Manhattan, spoke with the New York Times and explained why these ingredients are exciting but deserve more research dedicated to them. “There was one study in 2014 that said CBD can help reduce oil production and thereby have anti-acne and anti-inflammatory attributes,” Idriss said. “It wasn’t a perfectly well-rounded study, but it does have merit.”

Skincare Benefits Of Hemp Oil
Thanks to omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, the hemp seed oil found in products like this serum (which also has antioxidant vitamin C) can alleviate conditions like dermatitis and provide relief if you have eczema or incredibly dry skin. Hemp seed oil has a comedogenic rating of 0, which means it won't clog your pores. And it's an excellent acne treatment alternative, especially if you have sensitive skin that can't handle salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Makeup Products Will Also Feature Hemp Seed Oil
It’s pretty obvious why skincare creams and serums with hemp seed oil are a hit. But the hemp and cannabis revolution is also going to affect the entire cosmetics industry. This highly rated mascara for volume uses cannabis sativa seed oil, along with a few other oils, to moisturize and condition lashes so that you’re actually giving them a healthy treatment while lengthening them and making them voluminous.
