Blake Lively, the star the new movie It Ends With Us, a book-to-film story written by Colleen Hoover about escaping the generational patterns of domestic violence, is under fire by fans for her inappropriate promotion of the movie. Fans have accused the mother-of-four of promoting the movie as if it were Barbie, and not a film about domestic violence, calling her “tone deaf” and “disgusting.”
Lively has also been using the new film to promote her alcohol brand, Betty Buzz, and her haircare line, Blake Brown, which is garnering even more backlash from fans. Now, the Gossip Girl star is reportedly taking “a step back” to “reassess her future,” fearing that her career is coming to an end. Keep reading for more information.
Blake Lively Faces Backlash For 'It Ends With Us'
It Ends With Us is a gut-wrenching and emotional story about domestic violence from the perspective of a victim. However, many fans think that Blake Lively isn’t treating it with delicacy and respect, and is rather promoting it as if it were the same feminist celebration as Barbie, or a fun rom-com like Anne Hathaway’s The Idea of You.
For instance, while co-star and director Justin Baldoni has in his Instagram bio, “If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Visit @nomoreorg for more info,” Lively, on the other hand, has “Found of @bettybuzz & @bettybooze” in her bio, promoting her beverage brands.
Posts on the mother-of-four's Instagram feature the launch of her new haircare line and press photos of her in pink-floral dresses. "I’ve got a dream! When your company throws a florist themed party for your movie," she captioned one post of her in a pink floral dress, adding flower emojis and tagging her alcohol brand.
Fans have been really disappointed with the way Blake has handled the entire It Ends With Us release, writing in the comment section of her posts, "Love you Blake but you are definitely tone deaf. The promotion on this film is a complete slap in the face to every woman who has endured domestic violence."
Another person added, "Disappointed that you're promoting YOUR OWN hair care products and flower dresses rather than shining more light on DV…considering you're acting in a movie about it…."
"Cringe and tone deaf babe," reads another comment.
Blake Lively Fears For Her Career
Though Lively hasn't formally responded to the criticism she's received, insiders have confirmed that she is worried for how this will affect her career. "Blake is definitely saddened by the hate she is getting and is trying not to let it affect her but it is," the source said. "She thought this was her moment to shine but is now looking at it like the end of her career. She's fearing no one will want to work with her after this."
The insider continued, saying that Blake is hopeful, but a re-evaluation of her career is definitely on her radar. "She really wants to continue producing and directing and acting but she knows she needs to take a step back for a minute to reassess the future." Hopefully, her silence is a sign of her really taking fans concerns into consideration and thinking not only about her past actions, but a corrective plan of action to make things better.
