Blake Lively, the star the new movie It Ends With Us, a book-to-film story written by Colleen Hoover about escaping the generational patterns of domestic violence, is under fire by fans for her inappropriate promotion of the movie. Fans have accused the mother-of-four of promoting the movie as if it were Barbie, and not a film about domestic violence, calling her “tone deaf” and “disgusting.” Keep reading for more information.

Blake Lively Makes ‘Tone Deaf’ Comments

It Ends With Us is a gut-wrenching and emotional story about domestic violence from the perspective of a victim. However, many fans think that Blake Lively isn’t treating it with delicacy and respect, and is rather promoting it as if it were the same feminist celebration as Barbie, or a fun rom-com like Anne Hathaway’s The Idea of You.

One instance is an Instagram reel she posted featuring her, Colleen Hoover, Jenny Slate, and Isabela Ferrer, in which the four answer playful questions like “How compatible are our zodiac signs?” and “If we could quit our jobs, what would we like to do?”

While at surface level, this isn’t inherently harmful, fans are comparing Blake Lively’s take on promoting the movie to others involved in the film like her co-star, Just Baldoni, who has in his Instagram bio, “If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Visit @nomoreorg for more info.” Lively, on the other hand, has “Found of @bettybuzz & @bettybooze” in her bio, promoting her beverage brands.

Fans Call Out Blake Lively On Social Media

Fans have taken to all platforms of social media to call out Blake Lively for her inappropriate handling of the themes of the movie, and in her Instagram comments is just one location where she's receiving the most heat.

"I’m very confused," one person wrote. "You missed the entire purpose of the movie. I’m sad and disappointed."

"You're not Margot promoting Barbie," another added.

"Quick question Blake," one comment reads. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Blake...did you read the book?" one person asked.

"This is the most tone deaf thing I've ever seen," another comment reads. "This movie is about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, why are you promoting it like it's a Barbie movie???"

"Mean girl to the core," one user said.

"Tone deaf. Such a disappointment," a final fan posted.
