This current season of The Voice is Blake Shelton’s last, but the beloved coach, 46, has stressed to fans that he won’t get too emotional over this. The “God’s Country” hitmaker surprised viewers (and himself!) this week by getting “shook up” over the last night of the show’s Blind Auditions.
Since the last blinds night occurred this week, this meant that Shelton pressed his button to choose a contestant to join ‘Team Blake’ for the final time ever. Shelton was visibly moved by the sweet moment, and fans on Twitter were touched as well, with some even begging and urging him to stay on the show.

Blake Shelton Gets Emotional During His Last Blind Audition Contestant Choice
Shelton seemed to be more affected by his final Team Blake choice than he anticipated, as she spun around for the last time for 19-year-old Grace West, who performed a stunning cover of Pam Tillis’ “Maybe It Was Memphis.” The rendition also inspired fellow coach Niall Horan, who vied for the young singer to join his team.
After West’s performance ended, it was clear that she wanted to choose Shelton as her coach. Shelton’s notorious frenemy on the show Kelly Clarkson even supported this choice, telling West, “He’s the guy that really does help artists out.” She comically admitted, “That is my gift to Blake Shelton!”

Bacsktage, Shelton then reflected on his time on the show, as it really began to sink in that this would be his last Team Blake selection after 22 seasons and 12 years as a judge. “I gotta tell you, I’m sitting here talking about Grace right now, but my heart swells up, thinking about my journey on this show,” the “No Body” crooner told the cameras. He went on,”Twenty-three seasons, and for the last artist, for me to hit this button for [the last time], I didn’t let it take over, I didn’t show any emotion, but I did get a little bit shook up.”
Later on, Shelton and host Carson Daly sat down to reminisce about the many “good memories” they shared together since the show’s inception in 2011, and how it felt to gather his last Voice team. “I knew coming into this, I would try to take all of those moments in,” Shelton shared. “It’s going by so fast, so when I said that out loud, it became real.”

Fans React To Shelton's Last Team Ever, And Beg Him To 'Stay On'
Although Shelton has his reasons for wanting to leave the show, some fans will keep attempting to convince him to stay, it seems. One wrote on Twitter following West's performance and after she became Shelton's last 'Team Blake' contestant, "Solid team Blake, and we'll miss you." Another added, "does he really have to leave?" with a crying emoji as someone else chimed in, writing, "Please, Please, Please don't leave Blake."
Shelton announced his Voice exit back in October 2022, when the country singer wrote in a statement for his fans, "I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from ‘The Voice’ after season 23. This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me."
He added, "it’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week." Naturally, many of Shelton’s fans have been bummed since the news broke, as the musician has garnered a reputation as a beloved and comical coach on the show.
