BrightFarms Recalls Spinach And Salad Kits Due To Listeria

Check your greens! BrightFarms products impacted by this recall were sold across stores like Giant Company, Giant Food, Food Lion, Stop & Shop, and Wegmans in seven states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The following BrightFarms products are subject to this recall:

  • Baby Spinach, 3 ounces; best-by date between 1/11/2024 and 1/20/2024; UPC code 8-57062-004992-3
  • Bacon Ranch Crunch Kit, 6.7 ounces; best-by date 1/15/2024; UPC code 8-57062-00416-9
  • Chickpea Caesar Crunch Kit, 6.5 ounces; best-by date 1/15/2024 or 1/20/2024; UPC code 8-57062-00415-2
  • Mediterranean Crunch Kit, 6.35 ounces; best-by date 1/15/2024 or 1/20/2024; UPC code 8-50051-82501-1
  • Southwest Chipotle 5.85 ounces; best-by date 1/15/2024; UPC code 8-50051-82500-4

Symptoms of infection caused by listeria, a.k.a. listeriosis, include fever, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting, and digestive issues. In some cases, it may be fatal. People with compromised immune systems, children, elderly people, and pregnant people are at a higher risk of serious infection.

Element Farms, BrightFarms' supplier, is currently conducting an investigation to uncover how this spinach may have become contaminated with Listeria. Although vegetables grown indoors like these greens are less likely to be contaminated with bacteria such as listeria, it's clear that there is still some risk involved. In 2021, BrightFarms issued another recall due to a salmonella outbreak.
