Britney Spears was apparently in a reminiscent mood last week, as she decided to post photos from when she accidentally burnt down her home gym in 2020. On Dec. 18th of this year, she posted a single photo on Instagram of the aftermath of the fire: dark soot covering the floor and all her exercise equipment. But fans are growing suspicious—one user took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share that they think there’s “more to the story.”
Britney Spears was still under the conservatorship that was controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, at the time of the fire. A judge ended the 13-year arrangement in late 2021, and one of the first things Britney did, aside from marrying (and divorcing) her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari, was write a shocking memoir, The Woman in Me, revealing secrets from the past. Britney Spears Reflects On Home Gym Burning Down
On Dec. 18th, Britney posted the picture of the destroyed home gym. Ashes covered her dumbbells and other exercise equipment, and it looks like part of the mirror that covers one wall melted off to expose concrete. But the peculiar part of the situation is in the caption. Britney wrote, “Reflecting back remembering when I burnt the gym down in 2020!!!” She also added a winking emoji and an emoji with raised eyebrows looking suspicious.
After Britney’s controversial conservatorship ended back in 2021, many people believed that Britney shouldn’t be left alone, as she could be a danger to herself. In fact, the documentary released this past may titled Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom revealed that “those closest to her” believe that “she’s a danger to herself and others.”
When Britney originally told fans back in 2020 that the gym burned down, she posted a video of her working out with the caption, “but yes…I burnt it down. I walked past the door to the gym and flames BOOM!!!!!! By the Grace of God the alarm went off after that and yippy hoorah nobody got hurt.” Though she did say in the video that two candles she had lit caused the fire, fans are now questioning what really happened that day.

Fans Wonder If There’s ‘More To The Story’
Britney has turned off commenting abilities on her posts, so while fans couldn’t announce their suspicions in the comment section, it didn’t stop them from heading over to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts.
User @LuckySGM tweeted a screenshot of Britney’s Dec. 18th post and wrote, “Maybe one day Britney will tell us more about when her in home gym burnt down…. I’ve always felt there was more to the story and those emojis on the caption make it seem like there is too.”

And many users agreed. “Not sure if we will ever find out but my theory is surveillance system/devices…” one person replied to the original tweet. “There is definitely more to the story because she keeps bringing it up.”
“I just said the same thing,” another fan agreed. Aside from reflecting back on the occurrence, Britney hasn’t offered any sort of further explanation about the fire.
