The judge may have already made a ruling on Britney Spears’ conservatorship, but updates are still coming as the 39-year-old popstar works to find her own representation and continues to fight the system which has controlled her for the last 13 years. Last Wednesday, Spears announced that she plans on charging her father with ‘conservatorship abuse,’ testifying on her plans to hold her father, Jamie Spears, accountable.

The singer has hired former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart as her attorney in order to fight back against the conservatorship and return to normal life, and Rosengart appeared at the hearing on Wednesday to represent the mother-of-two. According to CNN, over the phone Spears said, “I would like to charge my father with conservatorship abuse. I want to press charges against my father today. I want an investigation into my dad.”

A tearful Spears testified that she thought those in control of her conservatorship “were trying to kill me,” and that this use of power should be considered abuse. She also added that the conservatorship was “f--king cruelty” and that she now struggles with “serious abandonment issues.”

Spears’ new attorney, Rosengart, spoke up, calling for Jamie Spears to willingly step down from his role as conservator. “Jamie Spears should be removed as conservator because it is in [the] best interest of the conservatee,” he said. “We will be moving promptly and aggressively for his removal. The question remains, why is he involved? He should step down voluntarily because that’s what’s in the best interest of the conservatee.”

Revealing more details about the intricacies of the conservatorship, Spears shared that she was forced to work 70+ hour work weeks. “Their goal was to make me feel crazy and I'm not. And that's not OK,” she said. The case is still ongoing and Spears continues to be under the guardianship of her father and personal care manager Jodi Montgomery as she moves forward with charging Jamie Spears.
