2024 has been a year full of trends! From puddle pants and string bikinis to the rising vintage goth style. Trends are usually short-lived as they come and go in this fast-paced era, but one stood out all summer and has continued to make waves into fall: bubble skirts!
Bubble skirts, aka balloon hem skirts, dominated the runways during the spring/summer fashion shows. They truly earned their spot as a must-have when influencers and celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Kaia Gerber were seen rocking the trend during their European vacations and off-duty outfits.
Skirts are a summer essential, but they’ve seamlessly transitioned into fall wardrobes in fresh and unique ways. The latest seal of approval? None other than fashion leader Zendaya.
Zendaya Rocks the Bubble Skirt Trend During Paris Fashion Week
Zendaya took a modern take on the Y2K staple by rocking a beige ruched balloon skirt with high-low hemlines. She paired the piece with a crisp black tuxedo that featured white lapels, a plunging V-neckline, and a red brooch on one side of her breast. Fishnet stockings and black pumps were her final touch, and she accessorized her ensemble with a black top handle bag. Talk about making a statement!
Her glam was all in the details. She matched her brooch by rocking a bold red lipstick and styled her now blonde hair in a neat bun with a voluminous side part, perfectly accentuating her mini gold jewelry pieces.
Zendaya Wears A Puffy Emerald Green Dress
Last month, the Dune actress stepped out for a night in NYC, rocking a stunning emerald green puffy mini dress that resembled one giant bubble. The playful outfit featured a stretchy off-the-shoulder neckline, billowy sleeves, and was paired perfectly with black pumps.
If this outfit looks somewhat familiar to you, you're probably right (we're looking at you, Kendall Jenner).
Kendall Jenner's Cloud Dress for Jacquemus
In June 2023, the Kendall took to the runway for the Jacquemus Spring 2024 show in Versailles, France. The oldest Jenner sister donned the designer’s poofy white balloon dress, which also boasted a stretchy off-the-shoulder neckline and a micro mini balloon skirt. The tequila mogul looked like she was floating on a cloud!
Bubble dresses can be styled in two ways: as a puffy skirt paired with a fitted bodice or as a cloud-like dress that’s loose from the neckline to the hem. Either way, we’re excited to see more fall-inspired bubble skirt looks!
