According to Nation's Restaurant News, drive-thru sales can generate 60-70% of sales for these chains. Now that more people are preferring to stay in the safety of their own cars when ordering fast food, there is a demand to revamp the process.

Burger King, McDonald's, Chipotle, Shake Shack, and Taco Bell have all overhauled their drive-thru to create more efficiency. For example, McDonald's recently launched new menu boards called, "Dynamic Yield menu boards." This new innovation allows customers to see "food based on the time of day, weather, current restaurant traffic, and trending menu item." Wow!

Additionally, Chipotle, which didn't even have a drive-thru lane before the crisis, tested Chipotlanes, aka pickup lanes for to-go meals pre-ordered through the brand's app and online. Chipotlanes are going to be in more than 60% of new Chipotle restaurants!

Now back to Burger King. The company recently announced plans to create an all-new restaurant model called "Restaurant of Tomorrow."

These new concept restaurants will have not only a drive-in section, but curbside delivery, food lockers for to-go orders, and a multiple-lane drive-thru. Welcome to the future!
