Ice Cream Is Being Pulled From Shelves In New York Due To ‘Life-Threatening’ Allergens

Attention, ice cream lovers: Byrne Dairy has issued a recall on half gallon cartons of their Mighty Fine Chocolate Ice Cream, the Food and Drug Administration reports.

Byrne Dairy Mighty Fine Chocolate Ice Cream is being recalled due to the fact that it may contain undeclared peanuts, making this ice cream potentially life-threatening to people with peanut allergies. Learn more about the recall and what to do if you’ve purchased a recalled product below.

Byrne Dairy Mighty Fine Chocolate Ice Cream Recalled For Undeclared Peanuts

According to the FDA, Byrne Dairy initiated the recall on their Mighty Fine Chocolate Ice Cream after receiving a complaint from a customer that a "product containing peanut butter was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts due to mislabeling of the product," which may mean that this chocolate ice cream also contains peanut butter.

"People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product," the FDA warns.

The recalled cartons of ice cream were distributed to retail stores throughout Upstate New York. They are half gallon carton containers and are labeled with a Last Date of Sale of 10/4/2024. The FDA reports that the recall involves no more than 250 cartons.

If you are in possession of one of the recalled ice cream, you should not consume it. Instead, the FDA says you should either dispose of it or return it to the place you purchased it form a refund.
