Canned Soup
Canned soup is one pantry food you might want to say goodbye to, especially if you are hoping to reduce stomach bloat.
Most canned soups are high in sodium, which leads to stomach bloat and discomfort.
Eat This, Not That! explains, "A typical serving of soup contains anywhere from 750 to 1,100 milligrams of sodium—which is bad news for your gut. When you flood your system with sodium, the kidneys can't keep up, so the salt sits in the bloodstream where it attracts water, causing water retention and bloat."
And even the "healthier" versions of canned soups--ones with lower amounts of calories and fat--still usually contain these large amounts of sodium.
Too much salt can lead to other health problems as well.
According to Healthline, "Eating too much salt in the long term may raise your blood pressure and increase your risk of stomach cancer. It may also increase the risk of heart disease and premature death, although more research is needed to confirm this."
With that in mind, limiting your salt intake is a good idea--and an easy way of doing so is cutting out high-sodium foods like canned soup. Instead, opt for homemade soup options that allow you to control exactly how much salt is used.
