Most people assume that all carbs are bad for you – which is completely false. While it is true that limiting your carb intake can help you to lose weight, it’s a myth that carbs are inherently bad for you. Not all carbs are the same, and most would agree that you should stay away from refined carbs with a high glycemic index, like white bread, white rice or pastries. But there are many complex carbs that are actually really good for you.
The carbs that are good for you tend to be high in protein and fiber. There are quite a few of these foods out there, but the best ones you can eat are:
Quinoa
Quinoa is high in protein, fiber and an array of vitamins - particularly B vitamins. Eating quinoa regularly can help your body convert food into energy, meaning you digest faster and less calories are turned into fat.
Oats
Oats are one of the healthiest breakfast carbs you can eat, because of their high fiber content. This grain can help promote weight loss, regulate the metabolism and lower your blood sugar level.
Pumpkin
Most people don’t automatically think of carbs when they think of vegetables, but there are some veggies that are high in healthy carbs - particularly squashes like pumpkins. This seasonal veg is loaded with fiber, iron, potassium and antioxidants.
Yogurt
Another food that most people forget is a carb, yogurt contains high levels of calcium, vitamin D and probiotics. This makes yogurt exceptional at helping regulate the gut and digestion, and promoting the burning of fat.
